Visit Killarney Beach to swim and cast a line, immerse yourself in nature at Tower Hill State Game Reserve, go for a short drive to historic Koroit and the beautiful seaside village of Port Fairy – there really is no shortage of experiences that await when you are ideally located in Killarney. 

Killarney is ideally located only minutes from Port Fairy and the small historic township of Koroit.  It is a picturesque amble across the sand dunes to a pristine swimming and fishing beach, and a short drive to the Tower Hill State Game Reserve.

Koroit

The quaint town of Koroit is well worth a visit. The town has been hailed as one of Australia’s most complete examples of an early Irish settlement and has become renowned for its annual Koroit Irish Festival, which is held in April each year, and attracts thousands of visitors to the town. Step back in time as you take in the town’s stunning historic buildings and enjoy the sprawling botanic gardens, designed by William Guilfoyle.

Tower Hill State Game Reserve

Take a drive to Tower Hill, a state game reserve set on a dormant volcano. Here you can see a variety of native wildlife including emus, kangaroos, koalas and birds. The reserve includes a number of picturesque walks, barbeque and picnic facilities and the Worn Gundidj Visitor Centre, which incorporates cultural displays and locally produced Aboriginal products.

Fishing

Killarney beach is a recognised fishing spot. Fishers commonly catch whiting, snapper and flathead. Salmon are also regularly caught during the winter months and garfish are often caught in summer.

Port Fairy

The seaside town of Port Fairy is one of Victoria’s most popular tourist destinations and has been internationally recognised as the world’s most liveable community. The town is located at the point where the Moyne River enters the Southern Ocean and is a great spot for fishing. Griffith Island, which can be accessed on foot from Port Fairy, is also home to a colony of short-tailed shearwaters from late September to April. Port Fairy has a number of excellent swimming beaches and is renowned for its cafes, restaurants and boutique shopping.
